Helen Marie Smith, age 89, former resident of Fort Scott, and more recently of Grove,Oklahoma, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Skaggs Hospital in Branson, Missouri. She was born June 17, 1921, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Edgar Hensley and Mae Parker Hensley. Helen married Rogers H. Clark in December of 1939. They later divorced. She married Donald Bee Smith on May 22, 1960, in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2004. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Key Works Clothes in Fort Scott. She also owned and managed her mobile home rental business. She and her husband moved from Fort Scott to Girard, Kansas in 1982. They moved to Grove, Oklahoma in 2001. She was a member of the New Life Family Worship Center in Grove.
Survivors include two sons, Lester Clark, Wichita, Kansas, and Donald Clark and wife Teresa, Branson, Missouri; one grandson, Travis Clark and wife Julia, Shawnee Mission, Kansas; two granddaughters, Shelly Routen and husband Forest,Butler, Missouri, and Gayle Clark, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Also surviving are six great-granddaughters, Donna Stone and husband JR, Grove, Okla., Kimberly Robinson, Grove, Taylor Robinson, Tulsa, Autumn and Cheynenne, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and Crystal Routen, Butler, Missouri; one great-grandson, Forrest Routen, Butler, Mo. and one great-great-granddaughter, Carly Fleming, Grove, Oklahome; one sister, Wanda Powell, Parsons, Kansas; two nieces Linda Heady and husband Leon, Parsons, and Pam Peterson and husband Gary, Cocoa, Florida. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Ronald Clark.
Pastor Janice Wakeland will conduct funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the New Life Family Worship Center in Grove, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Grove church. Services are under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel, Fort Scott, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday in the U. S. National Cemetery.
