WILMA J ROBERTS
FEBRUARY 8, 1938 - JANUARY 6, 2009
JAY - Wilma J Roberts, 70, longtime Jay area resident passed away Tuesday, January 6th, 2009, with her friends and family by her side.
Wilma was born in Jay, OK., on February 8, 1938, the daughter of the late John and Carrie Olivia (Earp) Kirby. She married Bill Roberts on December 24, 1957 at the Delaware County Courthouse in Jay, OK. They lived for a time in Flat River, Missouri. Together, they owned and operated several businesses, including Bill’s Donuts, before moving back to Jay where they owned and operated the Holiday Pines Motel and Sportsman Court. Wilma also enjoyed working at the Guinn Nursing Home.
Wilma enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed cooking, particularly pies and candy. She was an active member of First Assembly of God in Jay, OK. for many years. Wilma loved popping pop corn at the Picture in Scripture Amiptheater with her church family.
Wilma is survived by her mother-in-law, Mertie Johnson; two brothers, Lloyd Kirby and Carl Kirby; one sister, Dainty McClure; two sons, Billy Roberts Jr, and Johnny Roberts; two daughters, Tenna Shotpouch and Barbara Newsome; six grandchildren, Mikie Shotpouch, Johnnie Landrum, Billy Roberts III, Johnny Roberts Jr, Brian Kirby and Kyle Kirby; five grandchildren, Deana Cox, Kimberly Fernandez, Amanda Helmick, Whitney Roberts and Carrie Kirby; eight great-grandchildren, Chloe` and Calle` Cox, Jacie, Mikenna and Keyton Fernandez, Mikela Woods, Ma’rleny and Henrry Carbajal, and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, both of her parents, one brother Ronnie Kirby and one son Jim Starr.
Funeral Services were at 2 pm on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at First Assembly of God in Jay, OK. Rev. Bill Goldner and Bro. James Bell officiated. Interment followed at Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers will be Johnnie Landrum, Billy Roberts III, Mikie Shotpouch, Johnny Roberts Jr, Brian Kirby, and Cyle Kirby. Honorary casket bearers will be Harland Coble, Cary Payton, Brad Cox, Jackie Dean Kirby and Carlos Fernandez.
The family received friends and relatives from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, January 9, 2009 at Funeral Services of Grand Lake Chapel in Jay, OK.
