FAIRLAND — The Fairland Board of Trustees and Public Works Authority regularly scheduled meetings for 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2 in at Fairland City Hall located at 28 North Main Street has the discussion and possible action to approve Ordinance No. 2014-1 amending Chapter 19, Article 1 Section 19-4, governing disconnection to water and gas systems on the night's agenda.
Last month 160 Fairland residential customers had water service shut off as a result of late or non-payment of water bills. Residents complained they had not received adequate notice of the shut offs or had time to make payment avoiding reconnection fees. Fairland officials said the unpaid and overdue amount for the last month totaling $24,953 put the entire town's utility service at risk. Fairland officials also reasoned the policy was clearly printed on the billing cards and had been highlighted for months.
Residents asked for the issue to be re-addressed at the next meeting which Fairland Mayor Mark Goode vowed would take place.
