JAY – A Jay man who was facing five felony charges in district court, has added two more felony counts to his docket.
Stephen Wayne Barbee, 20, of Jay, has been charged with two new felony counts of assault and battery on a police officer.
An arrest warrant for Barbee was issued on January 2.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in district court, on December 1, Barbee fought off officers, jailers and bondsmen when he arrived at the Delaware County jail with his bondsmen.
Officers Mark Berry, Miles Mussati and Sharon Fromeyer, along with a jailer, responded to a call and found the suspect on the ground with two bail bondsmen attempting to restrain him.
Berry claimed the Barbee kicked him twice before he could be restrained, according to the report.
Barbee is scheduled for the felony disposition docket on January 12.
In addition to the two new charges, he faces felony charges of second-degree rape by instrumentation, assault and/or battery with a dangerous weapon, receiving stolen property, and knowingly concealing stolen property.
He was released on a $114,000 bond.
An outstanding warrant has been issued for his arrest and a bond of $250,000 has been set on the new charges.
