It’s the time of year when American White Pelicans grace our fair city with their elegant flight formations once again, and to celebrate their yearly fall arrival, the 26th Annual Pelican Festival is slated for this weekend.
The Pelican festival begins Friday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. with a juried art and craft show with outdoor booth spaces, business expo and carnival.
The art and craft show and business expo will be located at the Grove Community Center located downtown at Third and Grand streets and the carnival will be located at the Grove Civic Center.
Families can also take a Pelican Dinner Tour aboard the world-renowned Cherokee Queen. Pelican Tours will run once a day through the weekend. Call 918-786-4272 for more information or to make reservations.
Saturday begins with the Pelican Festival Parade at 10:30 a.m. featuring many high school bands, local business floats and the incomparable Shriners with their wacky little cars.
“We are bringing back the parade this year with the help of several businesses and individuals within the community,” said Dave Helms, chairman of the Pelican Festival.
And, what would a festival be without live entertainment? Several music and dancing acts will perform throughout the weekend, offering a wide array of genres ranging from bluegrass, gospel, 50’s and 60’s music.
This year’s Pelican Festival is being held in partnership with the Grand Lake Association and the Grove Downtown Merchants Association with the assistance of our valued sponsors. Pelican Festival hours are Friday 3-8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For additional information call 918-786-2289 or visit www.grandlakefun.com.
