COLCORD – A family dispute ended when a man struck his son-in-law with an axe.

Clarence Newby, 61, of Colcord, called Delaware County Sheriff's dispatch to report that his daughter, Teresa Sixkiller, had stolen his prescription drugs. During the phone call, the daughter left and the call ended.

Approximately five minutes later, Teresa and her husband Cecil Sixkiller returned and Newby told dispatch in a second phone call that his son-in-law tried to hit him and “he (Newby) struck him in return with a chopping axe”, according to a press release issued from the Delaware County Sheriff's office.

According to the press release, the couple left the Newby residence. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputy Hartman stopped the Sixkiller vehicle and called for emergency assistance.

After stabilizing the wound to Sixkiller's arm, he was flown to Washington Regional Regional Trauma Center in Fayetteville, Ark. where he is listed in stable condition.

Newby was arrested at the scene without incident on charges of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon under the domestic violence act.
