WYANDOTTE - A Vinita man was killed and two others were injured Saturday evening in a head-on collision west of Wyandotte, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Phillip W. Briggs, 71, of Vinita, was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head and trunk internal and external injuries, the report said.

A passenger in his vehicle, Lula Briggs, 71, of Vinita was transported by Lifeflight to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., where she was listed in stable condition with head, trunk internal, trunk external, and arm and leg injuries. She was pinned for approximately 15 minutes before being extricated by the Wyandotte Fire Department with the Jaws of Life.

The driver of the other vehicle, Bob Ray Hamilton, 80, of Bartlesville, was transported by Miami Baptist EMS to Miami Baptist Hospital in Miami where he was listed in fair condition with head and leg injuries.

According to the OHP report, Hamilton’s vehicle was eastbound on Highway 60 just west of Twin Bridges, around 4:41 p.m. and Briggs’ vehicle was westbound.

Hamilton’s vehicle went left of center for unknown reasons and struck Briggs’ vehicle head on.

The drivers and the passenger were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
