Participate in the great weekend of Grand Lake Festivals' 17th annual Jana Jae Fiddle Camp and Music Fest, September 2, 3 & 4 in Grove, Oklahoma. It all starts Friday evening, Sept. 3, with a kickoff party, barbecue dinner, and jam at Snider's Camp. Activities at Sniderís Camp on Saturday evening include a fish fry, entertainment, amateur fiddle contest, and more. The public is invited to enjoy some great entertainment as musicians from across the nation gather to meet old and new friends and practice up for a great weekend of sharing, learning, and playing. Join us for this fun weekend of learning with performances and great fiddle coaching by 20 of the best, including Jim "Texas Shorty" Chancellor, Jana Jae, many others of note.

Texas Shorty, World Champion fiddler, has received many awards for his contributions to traditional American music. A 2010 NEA Heritage Award winner and five-time Texas State Champion fiddler, he continues to teach a new generation of fiddlers through classes and workshops. Chancellor and his wife Ruthie will perform, and he will coach throughout the weekend, sharing techniques and tunes that won him many fiddle contest titles and awards.

All ages and all levels are accepted for the Fiddle Camp, and all acoustic instruments are welcome in this weekend of great jamming, great food, great fun, right in the center of the country on beautiful Grand Lake Oí the Cherokees, Grove, OK. The workshops and master classes will be in the air-conditioned comfort of the Grove Civic Center. Join Dennis Neff, an internationally published arranger who specializes in fiddle and folk songs adapted for string orchestras, and play fiddle songs with harmonies expanded up to 6 parts. Participants will learn about chords and how to add double stops to their fiddle tunes. Handouts and hands-on exercises will include manuscript for fiddle, viola, cello, bass and guitar. Rex Gillentine, award winning guitarist, will offer a guitar workshop, emphasizing contest style back-up guitar, adding his interesting chord patterns and techniques. Russ Weeks will hold a mandolin workshop, Wayne Graham a guitar workshop, Michael Ginsburg will focus on improvisational fiddling, and more specialized workshops may be added.

All levels and ages are included: those who play by note or by ear, advanced players and adult or young beginners. It's an inspiring weekend filled with tips for better playing and help with individual problems or questions. All acoustic musicians are welcome!! Everyone takes home new ideas and techniques for competing in contests, performing, or just to enjoy.
