Grove Police arrested a twenty two year old man early Monday morning, in connection with a burglary at Jumpstart Convenience Store on Highway 59 around midnight.
Police responded to Jumpstart when their alarm went off and discovered a black tire iron, and the glass door on the north side of the building was broken. Officer Sergeant left the scene to canvass the area and noticed a blue Buick pull out of apartments on 36th Street at a high speed. Sergeant clocked the Buick going 36 mph in a 25mph zone and pulled it over.
The driver of the Buick was Terry Wayne Hodges of Grove. Sergeant noticed blood on Hodges knuckle and pants and asked why his knuckle was bleeding. Hodges gave Sergeant several different stories why the blood was there. Dispatch informed police that Hodges did not have a valid license and they arrested him and sat him in the back seat of Sergeant's car.
Sergeant, with the assistance of Officer Reiman, Officer Scott Graham, Sgt. O'Herin and State Trooper Ruben Hernandez then searched Hodges' car to find several packages of cigarettes which were confiscated as evidence and matched the same items stolen from Jumpstart.
Hodges is charged with second degree burglary, speeding and driving a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license.
