A Grove officer sustained minor injuries and a police car was damaged in a mishap over the holiday weekend, according to Grove Police Chief Mark Morris.

Late Saturday night, Officer Mike Dollarhide collided with a deer during patrol, disabling the patrol vehicle and causing the airbags in the car to deploy, according to a report.

Dollarhide was southbound on Leisure Road around 11:19 p.m., when the deer leaped out of the ditch and struck the grill, the report said.

Dollarhide suffered burns on his left wrist caused by the airbag deploying.

A passenger in the vehicle was uninjured.

As of press time, an estimate of the cost of repairing the car was unavailable.

Morris said it was fortunate that there were no serious injuries.

“The main thing is that everyone involved is okay,” Morris said.
