According to the National Weather Service, Delaware and surrounding counties are under an excessive heat advisory until 8 p.m. Friday and an excessive heat watch until Monday evening.
Afternoon temperatures will range from 97 to 106 degrees with heat indices between between 100 to 105 degrees and even hotter temperatures are expected Friday.
Highs Saturday will be even hotter from 105 to 109 and heat indices topping 110 degrees as a weak front will move into the area.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat related illnesses are possible.
Forecasters are looking at cooler temperatures returning next week.
