JAY ó A Kansas town council member and a Rose resident have been arrested and charged with making a pipe bomb.
Delaware County law enforcement received a tip that the duo was making pipe bombs in a home located at 494 E. 510 Rd. in Rose, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in district court.
Matthew Shane Edwards, 36, and Eric Aiden Daniels, 32, were charged on September 2nd with one felony count each of manufacturing an explosive device, after officials discovered a book with instructions on how to build a pipe bomb along with items necessary to make one, in the bedroom belonging to Daniels.
Both men claimed in their statements that they were making the bomb to blow up a stump on the property and in fact, the one bomb they devised had failed to explode.
Edwards was taken into custody on September 3rd by Arkansas officials in Springdale, AR and transported to the Washington County, AR jail. He was transported to Delaware County September 5, and was released on a $10,000 bond. He is set to return to district court on Sept. 10 at 9:30 a.m.
He has served as a Kansas, OK, town trustee for about two years.
He has not been suspended, according to officials.
Daniels turned himself in on Sept. 4 and has been released on a $10,000 bond. He appeared on Sept. 8 with an attorney and was ordered to return to district court on Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m.
A background check on Edwards revealed that in 2003 he pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of obtaining property by false pretense in Tulsa County and received a 1 year suspended sentence and fines.
