AFTON - An Afton woman has been arrested after allegedly stabbing her live-in boyfriend, who has a history of domestic violence.
Kayla Dianna Criger, 22 of the Ketchum area, is in custody after emergency personnel responded to a 911 call regarding a male bleeding from a stab wound to his upper left leg.
The victim, 29 year-old Robert Allen Higgins, was treated and taken by ambulance to Craig County Hospital where he was treated and life-flighted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Higgins is listed in critical, but stable condition, according to the report from Delaware County Sheriff's Captain Ron Teel.
According to authorities, the couple had spent the night out drinking and started arguing. The argument continued in their Ketchum home and escalated into the stabbing of Higgins, her boyfriend of two months.
During a search of the residence, what appeared to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found.
A background check of Higgins shows he was charged in April with assault and battery by strangulation in the presence of a minor that involved repeatedly grabbing Criger by the neck, choking her and hitting her in the face. In that incident Criger tried to stab him with a fork. He twisted her arm and punched her in the back, according to the affidavit.
Criger's background check states that in February 2009, she pled guilty to a misdemeanor charges of assault and battery on a female and was sentence to three months in Delaware County Jail.
No bond has been set and Criger faces charges of domestic assault & battery resulting in great bodily harm. She will appear in district court on Tuesday morning to be arraigned.
The investigation is still on going with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the Delaware County Sheriff Office.
