Alcohol and unsafe speed were reportedly the cause of an accident that claimed the life of a Miami man late Sunday night.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that Joshua William Cox, 25, was pronounced dead from massive injuries at Miami Baptist Regoinal Hopspital after his pickup failed to negotiate a curve on a country road two miles south and five miles east of Fairland around 11:30 p.m.

According to the OHP, the Cox vehicle was westbound when it ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Cox was pinned for 25 minutes before being extricated from the vehicle by the Fairland Fire Department.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no passengers.
