It will be easy to mistake downtown Grove for a tropical getaway this weekend during the 23rd Annual Grovefest, which will be held June 18 and 19.
The Grovefest Luau will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Community Center. For $4 per plate, attendees can enjoy pulled pork and other delicious barbecue cuisine prepared by Marty Follis.
The mood will further be set with island music sung by Mango Stephens and Hawaiian dancing by Hula Halau O’Leilani, a dancing troupe from Tulsa. Led by Leilani Sheldon, the dancers will perform both ancient and contemporary hula as well as traditional dances from Tahiti and New Zealand.
“We know living in Grove on this beautiful lake can feel like paradise, and we wanted to showcase another destination paradise during this year’s Grovefest,” said Lisa Friden, Grove Area Chamber of Commerce president. “We are very excited to have such distinctive performances featured by these talented musicians and dancers. We hope everyone will come to downtown Grove and get into the island groove at the luau.”
Saturday’s festivities will also include music by CC & Company from 1-3 p.m. and bicycle games for kids from 3-5 p.m. Attendees who seek new heights may take airplane rides at the Grove Municipal Airport between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The cost, which is tabulated by each person’s weight, is 10 cents per pound with a $10 minimum.
The Business Expo, Arts and Crafts Fair and Kidzone will be held Friday from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Kidzone, which was a new feature last year, has been expanded this year to include a dunk tank, a cake walk, and hula hoop and limbo contests.
Advance tickets for the Great Plains Amusement carnival, which will be held at the Civic Center, are still available for $15 at the Chamber office. The wristbands can be used Thursday and Friday from 6-10 p.m. and Saturday from 1-5 p.m.
