An Afton man was transported to the hospital Tuesday morning when his vehicle struck a residence near Bernice, according to a report by the Oklahoma State Patrol.

Sam Stroud, 49, was transported by Grove EMS to Integris Grove General Hospital and later taken by Lifeflight to St. Johnís Hospital in Joplin, where he was listed in critical condition due to a possible heart attack, the report said.

Stroud was reportedly driving his 1969 Volkswagen van east on a county road two miles south of Bernice at about 7:30 in the morning, when he apparently had a heart attack. His vehicle left the roadway and struck a residence. No one at the residence was injured.
