JAY — A judge ordered a Grove man accused of impregnating a teenager to pay child support for care of the victim’s baby.

Timothy Joe Mountford, 50, is charged in Delaware County District Court with felony second-degree rape and sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl. He is free on $150,000 bail.

On Wednesday, Special Judge Alicia Littlefield ordered Mountford to pay $203 a month in child support and $51 a month toward the $1,624 due in past child support.

A DNA test showed there is a 99.99 percent chance Mountford is the infant girl’s father.

Timothy and Vicki Mountford were the teenager’s legal guardians until the abuse and pregnancy were discovered.

The victim was removed from the home and temporarily placed with Matina Gardner, who is Vicki Mountford’s daughter, according to an official who declined to be identified.

In August, the state Department of Human Services and Gardner filed a petition against Mountford for paternity and establishment of child support, according to court records.

The infant was born May 28, according to the petition. Gardner has cared for the infant girl since her birth and is seeking to adopt her.

Gardner and Mountford sat on the same courthouse bench during Wednesday’s hearing and talked to each other during the hearing and afterward.

Gardner has been a foster parent since Feb. 3, 2005, George Johnson, a DHS spokesman, wrote in an e-mail.

Littlefield said Mountford’s child support will continue until the infant is adopted. Mountford said although he is disabled, he will find some way to make the payments.

According to an affidavit signed in November 2007 by Grove police Sgt. Mark Sheridan, the victim told Vicki Mountford, her legal guardian, that Timothy Mountford assaulted her. He confessed to a sexual encounter with the victim, the affidavit states.

The victim was placed in the Mountford home because she had previously been sexually abused which resulted in a pregnancy. In that case, Tommy James Isbell, 36, of Jay pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree rape and 12 counts of forcible sodomy and was sentenced to life in prison, court records show. Isbell confessed to having had sex with the child since she was 9.
