JAY – Opening day for filing for candidacy for open seats in county government drew several residents from throughout the county.

The doors opened at 8 a.m. this morning at the Delaware County Election Board and by the days end at 5 p.m. four candidates had filed for the two county commissioners races, one for county assessor and one for county treasurer.

Four county residents filed for county commissioner for district #1 include Democrats David Poindexter 32 years old, and Danny Gandy, 48. Republicans were Jerry Cole, 32 and Doug Smith, age 56.

Four county residents filed for county commissioner for district #3 and they include Democrats Robert Rowley, 47 and Don Beck, age 47. Republicans filing were Martin Kirk, 44 and 69 year-old Charles Lanier.

Leon Hurt, the incumbent, filed for his seat again as County Assessor and Susan Duncan has filed for the County Treasurer’s chair. Both are democrats.

The filing period will end on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
