A Jay man was killed and another injured in a Wednesday afternoon accident outside of Grove.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that the driver of one of the vehicles, Tommy Don Bushee, 36, was transported by Grove EMS to Grove Integris Hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Grove Fire Department, Grove Police Department and Delaware County Sheriff’s Department responded to the accident on Highway 59 at County Road 330 1.5 miles south of Grove at approximately 1:45 p.m. Bushee was pinned for approximately 50 minutes and was freed by Grove Fire Department using the Jaws of Life then transported. The highway was closed during this time. Jay Tanner, 54, also from Jay, was riding with Bushee when the collision happened. He was transported by Grove EMS to Grove Hospital where he was taken by Eagle Med to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO. Tanner was admitted in critical condition with head, arm, internal trunk, external trunk and leg injuries. His current condition is unknown. Bushee was driving a 1999 Ford Pickup westbound on County Road 330 when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 59 and County Road 33 and attempted to turn north. When turned the pickup north it went into the southbound land of Highway 59 and was struck by a 2005 Peterbilt truck driven by Eric L. Donahoe, 37, from Davenport, Nebraska. Donahoe was transported by Grove EMS to Grove Integris Hospital where he was treated and released for a leg injury. He had no passengers traveling with him.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that both drivers were apparently normal, however, neither Bushee nor Tanner were reported as wearing seatbelts.
