A little rain didnít dampen the enthusiasm of record-breaking crowds at Groveís annual Independence Day celebration.
More than 2,000 patriots showed up to celebrate our nationís birthday Thursday night.
A short cloudburst cooled things off, but the Texas Playboys kept right on playing their toe-tapping brand of western swing on a sheltered stage provided free-of-charge by a company from Pittsburg, Kansas.
Ben Hynum, who has been organizing the event for several years, said the stage was a loaner to show city officials.
He noted that Grove resident Bob Allison owns plants that manufactures the stages and will be approaching the city council sometime in the future to speak to them about the city purchasing one for future events.
In one short hour, the Grove Fire Department sliced and distributed 7,100 pounds of free watermelon at the event.
A good time was had by everyone who attended this annual city-sponsored celebration.
