Two out-of-town anglers were caught off guard by high winds near Shangri La Friday afternoon. The 15 foot bass boat took on too much water and started to capsize
when the two fishermen tried to get to another part of the lake.
Thanks to the help of Monkey Island resident David Thomas, they were able to tie-off on the rocks near his house and he took them to look for help. Monkey Island Fire Department Chief Carl Tesreau and Assistant Chief Reggie Stone responded with
the help of Bernice Fire Boat and Chief Patrick Beehler. They were able to tie the boats together and tow it to safety.
According to Tesreau, Monkey Island Fire Department plans to get its Fire boat back this week. The boat is being repaired from damage caused when the dock roof collapsed during the winter storms.
