Demolition of the old hospital in Grove is coming down to its last phase. “It’s almost gone,” said Randy Wheeler, Wheeler Development. Demolition is nearing completion to get ready for the soon to be built Har-Ber Pointe, a new 77,000 square foot community shopping center. Harps Food Stores will be relocating and expanding from their current location across Har-Ber Road.

According to Wheeler, reclamation of concrete and bricks will begin this week. “We are maintaining our green approach,” he said, explaining that workers will be “crushing it up and re-using it on site."

Construction of the infrastructure is scheduled to begin on August 1. “This includes storm re-design and utility relocation,” said Wheeler. Crossland Construction of Pittsburg, Kans., is scheduled to do the site work.

Grove Fire Department conducted a controlled burn of brush and debris from the demolition this week to help clear the area and allow for progress to continue.

The hospital was sold to Wheeler after the new hospital was built and opened just a few blocks away in January 2010.
