DELAWARE COUNTY – A Disney teen has died and a Eucha teen has been injured in wrecks occurring over the weekend.

Pronounced dead at the scent was Jami Herring, 19, of Disney, in a collision occurring Sunday on the Will Rogers Turnpike at 3 a.m. in Ottawa County.

According to the report filed by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Mark Kuhn, the 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS driven by the girl, along with passenger Donta Carter, 18, of Vinita, was westbound on the turnpike and was disabled in the roadway from striking the center concrete wall. Carter stepped out of the vehicle and Herring was in the process when, the disabled vehicle was struck by a 2010 Freightliner semi-truck driven by 60 year-old Robert Brehm of Huntsville, Ark.

Carter, Brehm and his passenger Virgil James, 48 of Benton, Ark. were not injured, according to the trooper’s report.The condition of the driver was unknown at the time of the collision.

On Saturday at 3:47 a.m. in the morning, two teenagers were in an argument on county road 630 and 280 approximately 1 mile north and 2 miles east of Grove when a 2003 Grand Prix driven by Ashley Greer, 17 of Grove went out of control, ran off the roadway, struck a ditch and rolled over twice after the accelerator was depressed by 18 year-old Jessica Sammarco of Eucha, according to the report signed by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremy Franz.

Sammarco was ejected approximately 30-feet from the vehicle. She was transported by Eagle Med to Saint John’s Hospital in Tulsa, where she was admitted in critical condition. Greer was not injured in the wreck.

The cause of the accident was listed as an inexperienced driver driving at an unsafe speed. There was an odor of alcohol in the vehicle, according to the trooper’s report. Seat belts were in use by the driver, but not by the passenger.
