Delaware County Community Partnership (DCCP) still needs help filling its donation needs for the Back-To-School Fair. The Fair is Tuesday, July 26 at the Grove Civic Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. DCCP will provide free school supplies for Delaware County students pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, however donations are still needed.
“In an effort to assist families and children in Delaware County during a time of financial downturn, we are again coordinating an effort to help children in Delaware County communities by providing assistance with school supplies for pre-K through 5th grade for the 2011-2012 school year,” stated Andrea Weaver, President DCCP, in an letter to local businesses explaining the event. “Our “Back to School Fair” and “Stuff the Bus” was successful in 2010. We provided over 500 Children with basic school supplies. Many families took advantage of the other free services available to them that day,” she continued.
Weaver also stated that last year local area service providers set up booths giving out information. Individuals and businesses offered things like: haircuts, dental screening, snacks, and child fingerprinting, all at no cost to anyone. She said that many have agreed to do this again this year and other groups are planning on coming with services to offer. The city of Grove provided the Civic Center for no charge. According to Patti Williams, Executive Assistant Manager at Walgreens in Grove and organizer of “Stuff the Bus”, “Its rough this year. This box would normally be full by this time,” she said showing the “Stuff the Bus” box inside the store. Williams said that last year the box was filled several times and they had several shopping carts filled with donations for the event. As of Tuesday morning, the box was not even half full.
“We are expecting some donations later today, but by now we would have had much more. We just aren’t seeing it,” she said. School supply donations can be taken to the Christian Help Center, Grove Chamber of Commerce, Walgreens and the Grove Church of Christ. Financial donations are also accepted at Grand Savings Bank.
Donations will be available while supplies last.
Other planned activities include free health, dental and vision screenings, a resource and safety fair, free haircuts, a blood drive and entertainment.
