Grove Police reported Tuesday that two juvenile boys were responsible for burglary and vandalism that occurred Sunday afternoon at a downtown Grove office building.

Grove Detective Sergeant Mark Sheridan said the two juveniles were apprehended by the business owner and taken to the police station after a witness identified one of them.

The boys are 11 and 12 years old, he said.

“This is a great example of citizens working with the police department to help us solve crime,” Sheridan said. “Everybody did a great job.”

According to Sheridan, the juveniles entered the office building through an unlocked door sometime Sunday afternoon.

Around 1:30 p.m. a man who was working in the building next door reportedly saw one of the suspects looking out of an open door. The man later identified the boy when he walked by the front of the business Monday afternoon.

According to Sheridan, the only thing that was stolen from the offices was a flash drive. Glass was broken in the building and several doors were jimmied open.

Sheridan said neither of the boys has a prior record and they will be dealt with by Delaware County Juvenile Services.

“They will probably have to pay restitution for the damage they caused,” Sheridan said.
