A flock of would-be turkeys are vying for the title of “Grove’s Biggest Turkey” during the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce’s new Biggest Turkey Contest. Until Dec. 3, ballot boxes can be filled to select one of four area business leaders as the winner, who will wear a giant sparkly turkey costume and strut through the annual Grove Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m.
The four business leaders featured in the contest include Sandy Harper, Superintendent of Grove Public Schools; Bruce Johnson, Grove City Manager; Steve Duff, Arvest Bank President; and Mark Londagin, Grand Savings Bank President.
Ballet boxes are available at area banks, at city hall, the Chamber office and traveling throughout Grove Public Schools. Each box features a photo of the contestant; and every dollar inserted into the box equals one vote.
The idea originated from Tom Locke, of First Bank and Trust, who had seen similar contests in other communities. The Chamber decided to host the contest in order to generate funds to help carry out its programs.
Votes will be tallied after Dec. 3, and the winner will be announced through the Chamber email blast and local media. Then Grove’s Biggest Turkey will make his or her debut during the annual Christmas Parade.
