The giant number "2" in downtown Grove heralds the return of the beloved monthly event, Grove Second Saturdays. The festive event is taking place this Saturday August 9th beginning at 6pm, and features extraordinary entertainment, food, shopping and art. This event offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate the waning summer season with your family and friends in the creative heart of Grand Lake, Grove, Oklahoma.

The heartbeat of Grove Second Saturdays is the live music that pulses though downtown. The Altones will be playing jazz and blues on the steps of Studio 31 while Magnolias will host Shout Lulu string band along with Skye McGowen's flat foot clogging starting at 7pm. Both young and old will be captivated as illusionist Weston Potts performs outside of Fishers of Men Christian bookstore. Also, returning this month will be entertainment troupe, The Ladies of the Salty Kiss. The six female pirates, whose antics are seen at summer festivals across the nation, will be up to their usual mischief.

This month, the choices for food and drink will include an opportunity to support the local school. The High School band will be grilling burgers and dogs on the front lawn of the Community Center to raise money for bus trips to football games. All proceeds collected from the sale of these items will be donated to the Grove Ridgerunner Band.  While you enjoy a delicious burger, wash it down with a root beer float from IBC bank. The old-fashioned flavor will keep your family and friends cool, and make you more nostalgic than a Norman Rockwell painting.  For dessert, Daylight Doughnuts will be serving hot donuts at 6:00.

Meet a true hometown personality, Sam at Grand Lake Sports Center, you can check out his assortment of water toys and fishing gear. If a cool sit down restaurant is what your family is in the mood for, Café Tiramisù will be serving fine Italian fare all night. If eating all this fresh food inspires you to get in touch with your inner Giada De Laurentiis, you may want to shop Gourmet's for the best sauces and cooking gadgets. They will also be hosting a group called Santa's Old Broads, featuring their cookbook called 'Doin' It in the kitchen'. Last on our list, always a final destination place for Second Saturdays folks is Java Dave's coffee house and café, with sandwiches, drinks, and plenty of cool seating.

After all that food and drink, take comfort knowing you'll be able to work it off tomorrow as Core Fitness will be giving out water bottles and punch cards with 3 Free Classes at the August Grove Second Saturdays event. They will also be introducing their kid fitness program , which begins in September, demonstrating a kid fitness class, with classic activities such as hula-hoops, jump ropes and Bosu balls. Perhaps after your kids are tired out from all the activity, longtime favorite Vickie McCaul will entice them to hold still for her personalized face paintings.

Best of all, fine works of art are the inspiration and initiative behind Grove Second Saturdays, and much quality work will be on display. Every time you walk into Brush and Palette gallery there's something new; this month it's their art show "Island Paradise". Also, Brush and Palette will be holding a silent auction for the art of Nancy Carberry. At Brown Design Group, canvas photography works by Pam Leptich, will be displayed and at Donna Jackson Art Gallery her recognizable plein-air and still life works are for sale. Finally at Blazon Studio, visit Joan and Larry, the drive behind Grove Second Saturdays, and take a look at their original works of contemporary art and feel just a little more hip and in-the-know especially if you take a painting home—after purchasing it of course.

Grove Second Saturdays, part state fair part quirky flair, is always a fun time but only for those who come, so make this Saturday the day your family will reminisce about for years to come.
