JAY - Delaware County Commissioners will be considering and possibly passing a resolution calling for a special election on April 3, 2012 to submit to the voters whether or not to pass a sales tax increase, the amount to be approved by the commission board.

The sales tax increase would be used to fund the recent $13.5 settlement awarded in the recent lawsuit against the Delaware County jail. The actual amount to be paid by the county is still unknown as there is another lawsuit pending against the county's insurance company to determine how much will be covered by the insurance and how much the county will have to pay.

Other items on the agenda include vacating a portion of roadway located in Helen's Cherokee Acres on E 318 Road in the Grove area. Commissioners will vote to set a date of Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. before Judge Barry Denney during the meeting.

Accepting bids for cleaning and paper products, road materials and the installation of a commercial surveillance equipment for the jail will also be considered and decided on.

The meeting will start at 9 a.m. in the commissioners office of the Delaware County Courthouse on Wednesday morning. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
