Grove Assistant City Manager Debbie Bottoroff was issued a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation and was given a warning for driving 83 mph in a 50 mph zone.
Officer Danny Amendolara clocked Bottoroff driving a black Chevy Camaro and another car racing on his radar traveling at 83 mph on northbound Hwy. 59 at about 110th Street a little after midnight on Thursday, July 21.
According to Grove City Manager Bruce Johnson, “We have gone through the administrative discipline measures. We have conducted an administrative investigation and applied disciplinary measures,” Johnson said .
“The rest is up to the court and the District Attorney's office,” added Johnson.
According to the police report, the officer noticed the two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed and activated his rear radar twice. Both times it displayed 83 mph. He then activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the two vehicles with help from Deputy Mark Haulter.
Amendolara chased Bottoroff and the other vehicle north over Sailboat bridge and she came to a stop in the parking lot of Farmer's Market. The other vehicle that she was racing with went past them and Amedolara contacted Deputy Haulter and asked if he would stop the vehicle, which he did, and returned that one to Farmers Market also.
Police reports state that Amendolara could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage when he approached the car, and asked her if she had been drinking. She told him that she had two red beers.
She was then asked to exit the car and perform a field sobriety test. After the tests Amendorlara reports that he informed her that he believed she was over the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle and placed her under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Bottoroff then stated she was wrong and had drank four red beers and had not eaten all day.
The driver of the other vehicle that was racing Bottoroff is 16 years old. Police do not release the names of minors. He told Amendolara that the reason they were racing is that they were just messing around. He was given a citation for speeding.
Bottoroff was then transported to the Grove Police Department for booking.
