GROVE – The amount of sales tax distributed to Grove in February dropped, while city use tax jumped, according to figures released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

City officials said the decrease was due to a mistake in the previous month’s distribution, rather than a decline in actual sales tax.

The city’s 3.4 percent sales tax collected from December 16th to January 15th resulted in a $334,980.58 distribution from the state in that time period, a decrease from the $476,241.60 the city received from December through January of last year.

Grove’s city use tax jumped from $17,991.15 to $42,208.39.

Delaware County saw a decrease in the monthly distribution, the report said.

The county’s one percent sales tax netted a monthly distribution of $183,655.14, compared to the $240,070.04 received by the county for the same period last year.

The monthly distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commissioner primarily represents local tax receipts reported.

Monies received by cities and counties from sales tax help fund capital improvements.

This February, the state distributed $118,034,573 in sales tax collections to 504 cities and towns. That amount was an increase of $3,141,395 from the $114,893,178 distributed to 500 cities and towns in February last year.

A use tax collected on outside sales resulted in a February disbursement of $9,093,625 shared by 336 cities and towns.

In county returns, 74 counties shared in a $23,759,175 sales tax disbursement. A use tax disbursement of $1,930,784 was distributed between 65 counties.
