Several wildfires have erupted since Monday in the area of Cayuga Road and 188 Road. Officials believe the fires could be suspicious in nature due to the fact that the fires were contained each time and then re-started.

According to Wyandotte Fire Chief Jodi Francisco, the fires first started on Monday night. “We had them good and contained, then a fire started again across the road the following night, then last night again,” he said Thursday morning.

“Nine fire departments, Forestry, two dozers and about 40 guys have been out here to fight this fire,” said Francisco.

Francisco said firefighters worked about six hours on Monday, four hours on Tuesday and nine hours on Wednesday, each time able to put out and contain the fires that burned a total of approximately 160-200 acres over the three days.

“We haven’t had time to do a thorough investigation yet to determine the official cause of the fires” he said.

He warns the public to be cautious and if they see anything suspicious to call the Wyandotte Fire Department at 918-678-2300 or the local sheriff.
