JAY – An outstanding arrest warrant has been issued for a previously convicted rapist accused of raping another local woman.
John William Childers, a/k/a Johnny Sponge, 36 of Colcord, has been accused of raping a woman at a Colcord residence where she was spending the night.
Childers faces charges of rape in the first degree after an alleged incident that occurred Sept. 1, 2007.
The victim had reportedly gone to the residence of her friend to get a ride home. Her friend told her she would take her home in the morning, and the victim went to sleep in the couch. During the night she was awakened by the accused, who was also at the residence. He allegedly forced her to have sex against her will, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the Delaware County District Court Clerk’s office.
The following morning the accused took the victim home and she called the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department to report the incident.
Childers previously pled guilty to two felony counts of first-degree rape and one felony count of rape in the second degree in 1998 in Delaware County.
He is required to register as a sex offender and is also facing a felony charge of sex offender living within 2000 feet of a school filed in September 2007. In October 2007, a felony charge of failure to notify address change as a sex offender, a felony, was filed against him.
An arrest warrant has been issued on all three pending charges and a bond of $140,000 has been set.
