GROVE – A grandmother and grandson have lost their lives in yet another all-terrain vehicle accident, bringing the total number of ATV- related fatalities in Delaware County to five this year.
Tonya Joe Cochran 49, of Grove and her grandson, four-year-old Wesley A. Cochran Jr., of Gladstone, MO, were pronounced dead at the scene Sunday at 9 a.m. on county road 252 approximately eight-tenths of a mile north of Grove.
According to Oklahoma State Highway Patrol trooper Eric Gibe, the pair was traveling west on County Road 252 when they ran off the south side of the road.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll.
The woman and child were ejected approximately eight feet, landing on the steps of a house. The four-wheeler then landed on top of the two.
They were riding without helmets and the cause of the accident is unknown, according to the officer’s report.
