A grass fire in front of Grove High School spread quickly Tuesday afternoon due to high winds and dry conditions. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Grove Fire Marshall Mike Reed stated that it could have been caused by many things including a cigarette thrown out of the car.

“It started as a small fire and spread out in this field in less then five minutes,” said Brandon Fanning who was working at the new gym site at the time.

County Commissioner Doug Smith said Thursday that a burn ban for Delaware County is on the agenda for Tuesday’s Commissioners Meeting due to the extreme dry conditions.

“We will not give out burn permits until we get more rain,” said Reed.
