The Lady Ridgerunners are coming off of a slow few weeks after having a number of games canceled including the last half of the tournament at Dewey this past weekend.

The biggest impact on the team according to Coach Jeremy Collins is, “obviously cutting down on our amount of games and getting game repetition.”

Currently there have been a total of two district games and two non-district games that have not been played due to rain.

“The district games we missed will be rescheduled and will back load our schedule,” said Collins.

The girls missed two away games: their season opener on Aug. 7 against Stilwell and the Aug. 20 game against Oologah-Talala.

With the Dewey Tournament, Lady Red did play on Friday, Aug. 24 and defeated both the Collinsville JV 12-2 and Dewey 6-5 teams.

The game against Dewey was a close win for the Lady Red after the girls were down 1-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning with game time expired.

The girls scored one run in the first when Ava Sarwinski stole home on a passed ball.

Lady Red quickly got behind when Dewey was able to score four runs in the top of the second inning leaving the girls quickly trailing 1-4.

There was no additional action on the board until the top of the fifth inning when Dewey was able to put one additional run up leaving the girls trailing 1-5.

Big Red was able to load the bases in the bottom of the first after two singles and a walk when Eraya Elder was hit by the pitch.

The following ground out by Kianna Pellegrino brought in the first RBI with runners remaining on second and third.

Ana Pace then scored on a passed ball with Elder advancing to third.

Macee Barnes then hit a grounder for a double which was errored on by the Dewey shortstop allowing Elder to score and Sarwinski to advanced to third.

Sarwinski stole home on a passed ball tying the game 5-5 with Barnes advancing to third.

Blaise Redus lined out driving in Macee Barnes after a tag up for a walk off victory for the girls.

The girls were supposed to return to Dewey for the final two games on Saturday to determine the tournament winner but they were canceled due to rain.

“I would have liked to finish the tournament but we can’t control the weather,” said Collins.

Big Red is slated to play three district games this week with the first slated for Monday, Aug 27 against Locust Grove who is currently 3-6. Those results were unavailable at press time.

Their next game will be at Sequoyah Claremore Tuesday, Aug. 28 followed by Thursday, Aug 30 at home against Oologah-Talala.

“This week will be a big week, three district games in a row and two of them being against Sequoyah Claremore and Oologah,” said Collins. “Both having really good pitchers, and both being undefeated in district play so far.”
