Mark those calendars and save the date. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5 and 6 will be a weekend to remember as members of the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and the Grove Sun staff join forces to develop the Girls Grand Getaway weekend.
The weekend will combine the the events of the Seventh Annual Grand Lake Women's Expo, along with a variety of things in and around Grove.
The expo, a fixture on Grand Lake since 2013, is a premier event for all things health, beauty and lifestyle for women.
Vendors are currently being sought for the expo, which takes place on Saturday at the Grove Civic Center.
Both profit and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to have a presence at the expo. A link for a sign up form may be found at www.facebook.com/grovesun.
“We are encouraging the vendors to have hands-on demonstrations or activities for the attendees,” said Cheryl Franklin, Grove Sun publisher. “There will be makeovers, massages and lots of things to see, smell and taste.”
As in past years, nominations are being sought from members of the community for the 2018 Grand Lake's Most Inspirational Woman. The winner(s) will be honored during the expo.
The nomination qualifications and submission information will be kicked off in the Tuesday, Aug. 21 issue of The Grove Sun.
Organizers are planning a holiday dessert competition. Wining recipes will be featured in a holiday recipe edition of The Grove Sun in November.
One of the highlights of the expo is the clue kick-off for the Diamond Medallion Treasure Hunt for the Delaware County Children's Special Advocacy Network. Additional details concerning the hunt, which is a precursor for the 2018 Winterset, will be announced in the coming weeks.
Saturday's events will include the “Running for the Girls” 5k Fun Run sponsored by officials with the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.
Proceeds from the event will benefit INTEGRIS Grove Foundation’s Cancer Fund.
Other activities during the weekend will include a Grove Merchant’s Open House where shoppers can take advantage of special sales from participating merchants.
“We put out some information about it and already getting a lot of feedback people are making plans to come to Grove,” said Donnie Crain, Grove Chamber of Commerce president. “We have some other things planned to try to encourage ladies to come make a whole weekend out of it."
Participants may sign up for the 5K Run at www.Groveok.org, on the "Girls Grand Gateway Weekend" tab, under the "About Grove" section.
Members of the Brush and Palette Gallery are planning a paint party on Saturday and the Vintage on the Creek fall gathering, featuring craft and food trucks will take place next door to the Grove Civic Center.
On Saturday evening, a Chuckwagon Dinner and Dance will take place at Har-Ber Village. The annual event draws people from across the region for an evening of cowboy themed fun.
“More plans are in the works and more details are being ironed out for the Women’s Expo,” Franklin said. “We like to kick it up a notch every year but I think this year we are going to outdo ourselves.”
