Walter (Butch) Hayward, 71, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 25, 2018 at his residence in Grove.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1946 in Chetopa, Kansas to Melvin Morse Hayward and Earl Dean Jayne Wilson-Hayward.

Butch graduated with the Class of 1965 from Owasso High School in Owasso.

After graduation he joined the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam era on the USS Wasp CVS18.

His passions in life were his church, Gourd Dancing at Native American Pow Wows, Native American Silversmith, hunting, fishing and going to the shooting range with his friends.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Jayne Hayward.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Laura Hayward, Grove; son, Shelby Grant Hayward and wife Kaitlyn; three grandchildren, Hunter, Sadie and Addison (Kenzie) Hayward; brother, Melvin (Skip) Hayward, Lubbock, Texas; three nieces; numerous cousins, extended family and friends.

Butch’s celebration of life memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, June 1, at Crossroads Church, Fairland, with Pastor Jerry Baser officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lawson’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Grove, Shaunda J. Lawson, Owner/Funeral Director and Staff.
