Ramona Lucille Winfield, 89, of Kansas, died on Thursday, May 17, 2018, in West Siloam Springs.
Ramona was born April 13, 1929 to Daniel and Lizzie (Smith) Russell in Oaks.
She graduated from Oaks High School in 1949, later earning a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State in 1967.
Ramona worked as a teacher for Kansas Public Schools from 1967-2000. After her retirement, she worked for her niece at Harvest House in Kansas.
Ramona married John Sherman Winfield in July 1952 in Harrison, Arkansas. They were married until his death in 1990.
Ramona was a member of Eastern Star and the Oklahoma Education Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kansas, and also served as the church secretary.
Ramona enjoyed watching high school sports events, especially her granddaughter’s softball games. She loved to cook and loved her family, and enjoyed spending time with them.
She was the youngest of 11 children. She was very active in her church. Ramona had the heart of a servant and loved helping people.
Ramona is survived by her sons Joe Wayne Winfield and wife Elaine of Jay, and Philip Winfield and wife Pam of Mannford; her grandchildren Brandei Cochran, Kimberly Winfield, Chelsea Hansen, Jacelyn Winfield Ferguson, and John Winfield; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother Calvin Russel and wife Veleeta of Mannford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services took place on May 22, at First Baptist Church in Kansas. Pastors John Crowley and Terry Wafford officiated. Burial followed at the Kansas Cemetery, under the direction of Stephens-Key Funeral & Cremation Care of Pryor.
