The proceeds from a Harps corporate fund-raiser found their way into the coffers of five area nonprofit agencies last week.
On Friday, March 30, Payton Huskey, manager of Harps in Grove, presented representatives from CASA, the Community Medical Clinic, Grove Backpack Program, Community Crisis Center and the Abundant Blessings Center, with checks totaling $12,500.
The funding came from proceeds from the company's yearly golf tournament.
Huskey said corporate vendors provide sponsorships for the event, which are then matched by Harps officials. Those funds are distributed on an application basis throughout the communities served by Harps grocery stores.
Huskey said he nominated the five organizations, knowing that corporate officials screen the applications and determine the amounts for each group.
The Backpack program and CASA each received $4,000, while the other three organizations received $1,200 each.
"A lot of loyal customers shop with us," Huskey said. "I fell like all of their spending with us, goes back into the community.
"This is our way to help the community build a better Grove. I'm thrilled we have a golf tournament every year. To be able to use [the funding] through our local store, is the best part about it."
