Ridgerunners baseball is currently sitting 11-2 after beating McDonald County 4-3 on Saturday, March 24.
The game which was originally scheduled to start at 1 p.m. then moved to noon and again moved to 10 a.m., without being updated on team website, was a close match between the Ridgerunners and the Mustangs.
The Ridgerunners stepped onto the plate at the top of the first as the away team but were unable to get a run scored.
Jack Gentry was the starting pitcher for the Ridgerunners throwing for five of the seven innings played.
Gentry was relieved by Cade Coble who closed the game for the last two innings of play.
Gentry threw 80 pitches and 51 strikes while on the mound and his WHIP or walk hits per inning pitched was 1.2.
The first inning ended with no runs scored by either team and Grove was again unable to put a point on the board in the second as well.
The Mustangs were able to bring a run in during the bottom of the second with a homerun hit to centerfield bringing the score to 0-1 by the close of the inning.
Another scoreless inning in the top of the third for the Ridgerunners before the Mustangs were able to add another run to board bringing the total score to 0-2 by the end of the third.
The crew got back in the game during the top of the fourth when Gentry hit a ground ball to third for an error bringing in two runs.
Kaleb Keener followed up by hitting a single and scoring an RBI with a line drive to center field before closing out the inning with the Ridgerunners leading 3-2.
The Mustangs were scoreless in the bottom of the fourth.
The top of the fifth say Tyler Davis smash a long homerun over the left field wall giving Grove a two run lead.
Coble came in for the Ridgerunners to help close the game out during the bottom of the sixth as a relief pitcher for Gentry.
Coble was able to keep the Mustang from scoring in the sixth.
With Grove being unable to put any additional points on the board in the top of the seventh it came down to the bottom of the seventh and the Mustangs trailing by two.
Coble sent the first batter home swinging and a ground out to shortstop quickly stacked two outs on the board.
The next batter singled after swinging on an 0-3 count followed by a double to right field putting two runners in scoring position.
Then the Mustangs hit another single ground ball to shortstop allowing for the runner on third to score and advancing the runner on second.
This left a man on first and third with two outs and the Mustangs down by one.
The Mustangs batter stepped into the batters box and with the count showing two balls and two strikes he connected with the ball sending a grounder to shortstop Davis who threw the batter out at first ending the game.
The Ridgerunners win over the Mustangs gives them an 11-2 season and bumped them into ninth place in 4A for the state according to Maxpreps.
Grove will face off against Vinita in a two game series scheduled to play Monday and Tuesday, March 26 and 27, weather permitting, with Monday's game at home, and Tuesday's in Vinita.
Vinita is currently listed in seventh place by Maxpreps with a season record of 9-1.
