The Jay Bulldogs (20-3) are district champions after winning their game Friday, Feb. 16 against Hilldale 70-32.
Their victory sends them to the winner’s bracket in the regional playoff.
Jay was behind in the first quarter of the game trailing Hilldale 8-13.
The Bulldogs refocused before the start of the second quarter of play and managed to shut out Hilldale scoring 21 to their 0 ending the half with a strong lead 29-13.
Jay continued their strong performance on the court during the second half of play continuing to out score Hilldale by more than double.
The Bulldogs put up 18 buckets in the third quarter and 23 buckets in the four compared to 8 and 11 by Hilldale.
Their win in districts gives them two chances for state in the playoffs which are double elimination.
They will face off first against Roland who also has a record of 20-3 and could present a challenge for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are ranked 14 in the state for 4A as of Jan. 29 with OSSAA calculated the school rankings and Roland is currently ranked ninth in the state for 4A.
The rankings take into account a number of factors from field goals to free throw and more.
The Bulldogs will face Roland Thursday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. in Hilldale high school.
Should they win their game they will move on to face the winner of Metro Christian 18-6 and Muldrow 15-9 on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. at Checotah high school with the winner advancing to area.
If the Bulldogs fall to Roland they will play in the consolation bracket on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. against either Tecumseh 14-10 or Checotah 10-13.
Winner of that game will play one more at Bethel on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. and advance to area.
The Lady Bulldogs lost their district game against Hilldale 48-57.
The Jay girls will move into the consolation bracket in regionals and will face off against Poteau 12-11.
If the Lady Bulldogs win against Poteau they will play the winner of the Tecumseh 5-18 and Checotah 11-13 game on Friday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m at Checotah high school.
The winner of that game will play at Checotah on Saturday, Feb. at 1:30 p.m before advancing to area.
