John Eric Selan, 64, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 in Jay.

John was born in Enid, to his parents, Maynard Kirk Selan, Arkansas City, Oklahoma and Vivion Sue Howenstein-Selan, Muskogee, Oklahoma.

John graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1972, Tulsa. He worked for Max True Plastering Co. for 30-plus years as project and coordination manager, Rolling Plains Construction, Henderson, Co. as OSHA Safety Manager.

John and his wife Donna retired and moved to Afton in 2014.

They were week-enders for 33 years. They called their lake home “A Little Bit of Paradise.” They loved to entertain and shared their life with family and friends.

John was a blended parent, grandparent, and step-grandparent. Known as “Papa John”, He loved and was loved by everyone who knew him. He had the heart of a giant and the meekness of a mouse. He was a “give you the shirt off his back” kinda guy.

John loved to play his guitars and listening to music. He loved singing with family and friends.

John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Donna (King) Selan of the home; daughters, Dyanna Janell Mortadha and husband Salih, and Delisa La Verne Sandkuhl and husband David; grandchildren, Loganlee Arron Atchley, Bostonlee William Atchley, Layla Janell Mortadha, and Laith Salih Mortadha all of Tulsa; and Larry K. Selan of Houston, Texas; as well as numerous family and friends.

The family of John E. Selan will have a family memorial service in the spring when the crappie are spawning.
