The Grove Ridgerunners wrestling team will be sending six to the State tournament staring Friday, Feb 23 till Saturday, Feb. 24.
Wrestlers had to place in the top five in regionals to qualify for a chance to compete at the state tournament.
“I’m proud of the work the Grove coaches and wrestlers have put in this year,” said Ruben Hernandez, who is not only a parent of two of the state bound wrestlers, but is also active in the wrestling booster club.
“It’s all paid off with six wrestlers going to state and the successful season they had.”
“This is just the beginning of an upward swing for the program. The Grove wrestling boosters will do all they can to support them in the coming season.”

The following Ridgerunners placed in the top five at regionals and will be competing at state.

This year’s state wrestling tournament will be held at the Jim Norick Arena starting on Friday at 9:30 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 am till 10:00 p.m.
Based on their placement at regionals it will allow a couple of the Grove wrestlers two chances to compete,
Anthony Thomas will wrestle in the 182-weight class against Eriq Simpson.
Matt Amos will compete against Zack Mathews in the first round.
The other Grove wrestlers will have to win their first-round match to be placed in the regular bracket for a chances at state champion.
“Overall as a whole they wrestled very well,” said Coach John Henry Ward. “We really came out and wrestled hard, we are very proud of them and taking six to state is a big deal.”
