Gabe Simpson and Brenden Ryan, who both played football with the Jay Bulldogs, have signed on with Oklahoma State University to play Division 1 football.
Ryan was offered a position with the Cowboys as a wide receiver or tight end, while Simpson was offered a position as a guaranteed walk-on.
Simpson's role ensures him a spot on the team but not a particular position.
The last time that Jay High School signed a D1 athlete was with Cayle Shambaugh who attended University of Oklahoma for baseball in 2010 and Brent Stevens who played D1 basketball in 2003.
This is the the first time the athletic department has signed two students to the same D1 school for football.
More about Simpson
Both of Simpsons parents, Dalene Kirk and Brandon Simpson, were in attendance at the signing.
OSU coaches will look at him to step into any of the following roles: quarterback, safety, offensive line back and halfback.
For Simpson his first pick was OSU and with his grade as high as they are he was able to secure an academic scholarship. He will graduate third in his class.
Simpson will pursue a major in physical therapy.
He said he will miss spending time with his fellow Jay athletes.
More about Ryan
Ryan was joined by his parents Kim and Tom Ryan during the signing.
“We’re happy he got the school he wanted,” said Tom Ryan. “Ryan’s brother graduates this year so one going out and one in."
Ryan is ranked 29 in his class. He plans to major in physically therapy.
