Lady Bulldogs

The Lady Bulldogs lost to the Locust Grove (16-8) Lady Pirates 44-55 on Friday, Feb. 2, bringing their season record to 5-16.

The game quickly got away from them with the Lady Bulldogs trailing at the end of the first quarter of play 4-15.

The Lady Bulldogs stepped up their game for the second quarter of play score 9-9 points but ending the half still behind 13-24.

The rest of the game was a close match for the Lady Bulldogs trailing by two points in the third quarter and leading by two points in the forth quarter.

The slow start in the first is what hurt the girls causing them to end the game with a loss 44-55.

Top scorers for the night were Callie Callihan with 17 points for the girls followed by Landrey Sweeney, Myaleigh Pickup and Jade Frazier who put up six points each on the board.

Sydney Taylor also finished the night out with a few buckets scoring a total of five for the girls.

Overall the team made 4/10 at the line giving them a 40 percent free throw rate.

The girls final game of the season and senior night was against Kansas which was held after the paper went to print.

Bulldogs

The Bulldogs won over the Pirates (12-11) in a close finish 57-55 bringing their season record to 18-3.

The Bulldogs had a rough start to their night tailing at the end of the first quarter 13-17.

By the end of the half the Bulldogs had started to close the gap 24-26 and needed to pick up the pace to take the lead from the Pirates.

The third quarter of play ending with a tie between the two teams 36 all.

During the last minute of play the Bulldogs took the lead back from the Pirates with Gabe Simpson scoring two points to put the Bulldogs in their first lead of the game 51-49.

Subsequent two-point shots by John Culver and Dalton Tanner put the crowd into a frenzy as they extended their lead to 55-49 with 28.3 seconds remaining on the board.

The pirates scored a three pointer after pushing off a Bulldogs player and because of the missed foul closed the score to 55-52.

The Bulldogs passed the ball to Simpson who drew a foul to score two at the line extending the lead 57-52 with 13.8 seconds remaining on the clock.

The Pirates made a long three pointer but with only 2.8 second remaining on the clock were unable to catch up, giving the Bulldogs the win 57-55.

Big scorers for the night for the Bulldogs were Garrett Sweeney with 15, Zeke Simpson with 13 followed by Gabe Simpson and Kobe Budder with eight points each.

The Bulldogs were able to drop 13/19 buckets from the line ending the night with 68 percent free throw at the line.

The boys next game was Tuesday, Feb. 13 against Kansas (15-6) but the score was unavailable as of press time.
