Gabriele “Gabi” Ryan, 62, of Grove, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home after a short battle with cancer.

Gabi was born on March 18,1955 to Richard and Helga (von der Helm) Harris in Frankfurt, Germany.

As a teen, she and her family immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Prince George, Virginia where Gabi graduated from high school.

On Aug. 21, 1971, Gabi married the love of her life, Terry Ryan in Lamar, Missouri and the couple made their home in Virginia.

In 1993, Gabi and her husband, Terry and her parents moved to Grove and opened the Rheingarten German Restaurant, where she was most memorably the “hostess with the mostess”.

Gracious and outgoing, Gabi knew no strangers and their restaurant quickly became a favorite in Grove. After 17 years of serving fine German cuisine to their many loyal patrons, the couple retired from the restaurant in 2010.

Gabi was kind and loving, always willing to help a soul in need. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved them with every ounce of her being.

The flowers. If you knew Gabi, you knew how much she loved her flower garden and tending to each beautiful little bloom. Her garden was undoubtedly her happy place.

Gabi was preceded in death by her father, Richard Harris and one brother, Dieter Buchstein.

Left to carry on her legacy: husband of 46 years, Terry Ryan, mother, Helga Harris both of Grove; son, Kevin Ryan and wife Shannon of Broken Arrow, daughter, Kelly Stockton and husband Robby of Ft Gibson; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A gathering for friends and family took place on Thursday, Dec. 21, at Nichols Funeral Chapel, under the direction of Nichols Funeral and Cremation Services, Grove.
