Caring Kitchen/Feed My Sheep

Volunteers with The Caring Kitchen and Feed My Sheep have combined efforts to provide their services on the same day.

The Caring Kitchen, now located at 11th and Washbourne, in Jay, will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, while Feed My Sheep will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, across the roadway in its facility.

Caring Kitchen 2.0 will provide a nutritious meal once a week in its new location in Jay. Feed My Sheep will provide a food pantry for those in need on the same day.

The combined operation is designed to allow the two organizations to join forces in order to serve members of the community.

The Wild Eats at Bernice Nature Center

Jay Wrestling Kick-Off

The Jay Wrestling program will host several events on Tuesday, Dec. 5, to kick off the 2017-18 wrestling season.

The first includes a pulled pork sandwich sale from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and from 4:30 to 8 p.m., at Bulldog Arena (dine in, carry out or deliveries are available).

The meal, for $6 includes a sandwich, chips, dessert and a drink.

Vinita Christmas Parade

The Vinita Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Parade of Lights at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, in Vinita.

This year's theme is "Hometown Christmas." The parade will take place in downtown Vinita, beginning and ending at South Park. The route goes north on South Scraper Street., east on West Illinois Avenue., south on South Wilson Street, and west on West Delaware Avenue.

Other holiday festivities for the evening include merchant open houses, live entertainment, and food vendors beginning at 6 p.m.. At 6:30 p.m., the VACC will be at 66 Apparel for the first Christmas Bucks drawing of the season. After the parade, Santa will be at Hometown Dodge for pictures.

Ketchum Christmas Parade

The annual Ketchum Christmas Parade "Gateway to Grand Lake" will take place at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8, in Ketchum.

Entry forms can be found at Buddy Foods, and First State Bank in Ketchum.

Following the parade, the public is invited to attend the awards ceremony at Ketchum High School. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will give each child candy and hot chocolate and cookies will be served. The winning parade entries will be announced and awarded trophies and monies.

This year's event will benefit the new FFA Chapter at Ketchum High School. For each dollar people donate, they will receive a ticket to be eligible for the drawings. Prizes include a large flat screen television and other prizes.

Grand Lake Throwdown Tournament

The first Grand Lake Novice Throwdown will take place place on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Grove High School gymnasium. 

The event, organized by volunteers with the Grove Takedown Wrestling Club, is open to all novice wrestlers. Deadline to enter is 10 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, at www.okwa.us. Entry fee is $15 per entry, per division, with checks made out to the GTC. All wrestlers - including no shows - must be paid.

Weigh-in takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, and from 6 to 7:30 a.m., Saturday. Wrestlers must weigh in in a competition singlet.

Gift wrap fundraiser for CASA

Child Advocates of Northeast Oklahoma/CASA volunteers will host a gift-wrapping session at Shoe Sensation in Grove from 5 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8, noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, and from 5 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 15 and from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16 at the store.

Donations for the gift wrapping will range in price from $3 for small boxes to $7 for large boxes. Gift bags with tissue filler also will be available for a donation of $4 per bag.

Items do not have to be purchased at Shoe Sensation to participate in the fundraiser. As an added incentive, each gift wrapped will entitle participants to enter a drawing to win a great gift basket. The drawing for the gift basket will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 and participants need not be present to win.

Child Advocates of Northeast Oklahoma, a CASA agency, recruits, trains and supports community volunteers to serve abused and neglected children in Delaware County. CASA volunteers are assigned by a judge to serve as an advocate for children who are involved in dependency court cases. The CASA volunteer gathers information from those who know the child best and acts as the “eyes and ears” for the judge during the child’s time in foster care.

ECC Holiday Movie Matinee

Volunteers from the Grove Early Childhood Center will host an “old fashioned” holiday movie matinee from 10:30 a.m. to approximately noon, Saturday, Dec. 9, at Grove Cinema 6.

Two movies will be offered: The Swan Princess Christmas and Paw Patrol Pups Save Christmas, for a cost of $4 per person (choose the movie to see, all children must be accompanied by an adult).

During the event children will have a chance to have their picture taken with a princess or member of the Paw Patrol, for a cost of $5 per photo.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for a visit, and photo session at no additional charge.

All ticket purchases and photos with the princess or Paw Patrol will benefit a project - yet to be announced - at the ECC. Concessions will be available at the theatre for an additional cost.

AARP Driver Safety Program

Local classes for the AARP Driver Safety Program will take place in March to December. The one-day course is six hours in length. Drivers will be able to obtain a discount from their insurance carriers for taking the course.

Grand Lake Christmas Light Boat Parade

The Grand Lake Christmas Light Boat Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Cherokee Courtesy Docks at 3 p.m.

Boats will be on display at the Cherokee Yacht club until approximately 5:30 p.m., when the boats leave the dock, travel to Pensacola Dam and back along the shorelines of South Grand Lake to Duck Creek.

Second Chance Breakfast & Dessert Auction


The Annual Christmas Breakfast and Holiday Dessert Auction to benefit the Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Grove Community Center, 104 West Third, Grove.

The Holiday Dessert Auction will begin at 9 am.

Gingerbread Christmas

The Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Lighted Christmas Parade will take place at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, in downtown Grove.

Entries will be judged on the best use of lights and the best theme, which is Gingerbread Christmas. All entries will be required to utilize lights. Fees are $10 per entry.

The chamber's float is the only Santa allowed in the parade. No candy may be thrown from the float.

Legendary Branson performer Shoji Tabuchi will kick off the annual "Christmas at the Coleman" with a 7 p.m. show on Thursday, Dec. 14.

New Year’s Eve Celebration

Members of the Playmakers will host a New Year’s Eve Celebration, which includes a dance and show, from 8:30 p.m. until after midnight, Sunday, Dec. 31, at the former Moose Lodge, 61951 East 315 Road, Grove.

The event will include a champaign toast, hats, horns, and an hors d’oeuvres buffet. Reservations are $75 per person if ordered by Dec. 30. Tickets at the door will be $85. Tickets for a VIP table for friends or businesses - a minimum of six, up to 12) are $75 per person. Attendees must be 21 years and over.

Grove Home, Garden Show

The annual Home and Garden Show, sponsored by the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place Friday, Feb. 9 to Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Grove Civic Center, 1702 South Main, Grove.

Entry fees for members are $225 for a 10x10 booth, and $200 for an additional 10x10 booth space; for non members, the fees are $275 and 250 respectively. For booths touching the center court, have an additional $50 per 10x10 booth space fee.

No applications will be processed until payment is received. Drapes, side rails, tables, chairs and badges are provided to vendors.

Art in the Garden

Area artists and artisans are invited to reserve booths for showing and selling their works at the 2017 Art in the Garden show set for Saturday, May 5, in Lendonwood Gardens in Grove.

There is no charge for art exhibitors to participate in the show. A deposit of $25 reserves booth space and is reimbursable to artists who participate. Booths will be set up throughout the Gardens and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Artists will retain all proceeds from sales of their artworks.

Art in the Garden will feature works by young school-age artists as well as professional artists and accomplished craftsmen. Participants typically include potters, wood-turners, quilters, jewelry-makers, sculptors and carvers, in addition to artists working with oils, watercolors and other media.

During Art in the Garden, there is no charge for the public to explore the eight-acre botanical garden and enjoy the displays of arts and crafts.

Exhibitors interested in participating in Art in the Garden are asked to contact Lendonwood at 918-786-2938 for more information and to reserve booth space for the event.

Christmas Band Concerts in Grove

Students in the Grove Middle School and High School concert bands, along with the middle school and high school jazz bands, will perform a free Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, at the new Grove High School Performing Arts Center.

This year's concert will include White Christmas, Feliz Navidad, I'll Be Home For Christmas and more.

Admission is free, however a canned food item is requested, per person, to benefit the Christian H.E.L.P. Center.

Holiday Spectacular at the Library

Active shooter safety session

Members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and Grove Police Department will host a church and business safety session at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, at Trinity Baptist Church.

The event is designed to help officials with churches and businesses be prepared if an active shooter should enter their facility.
