The Colcord Hornets claimed its first Class 2A-7 district win over Chouteau on Friday, Sept. 29, as senior quarterback Spencer Earp helped give his team a victory over the Wildcats.

As the dust settled on the 49 to 6 victory, Earp's stats included 491 total yards and six touchdowns for the win.

“Our kids went out on Friday and executed our game plan and we were able to come away with the victory,” said Coach Curtis Waltman.

“Our offensive line and wide receivers did a great job blocking and it allowed for us to run the ball consistently against Chouteau.

"I was also pleased that we were able to throw the ball as that will allow us to hopefully become more balanced as the year goes on."

Colcord took 14-0 lead in the first quarter when Earp scored on runs of 69 and one yard.

The Hornets moved that lead to 28-0 by half time when Earp ran the football in from 11 yards and then found Ryan Castleman for the 15 yard scoring strike.

Earp added two more rushing touchdowns of 68 and 55 yards to move the score to 42-6 before Castleman had a pick six intercepting the football at the one-yard line and returning it for a touchdown.

Earp finished with 23 carries for 379 yards and five touchdowns while completing 6-12 passes for 112 yards and a score. Castleman had four receptions for 108 yards.

What’s next

Colcord travels to second ranked Victory Christian in district play. Colcord is 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in district play.

“Victory Christian is a team that has a lot of athletes and the ability to throw the ball around the field," Waltman said. "They present a unique challenge for us as we seldom see teams that will line up and throw the ball on almost every down.

"It’s a great experience for our kids to play different styles of football as it allows to become a more complete football team.”

Game time at Victory Christian is 7 p.m.
