Kansas blew past Salina in two run rule games to capture the district championship in Class 3A. The Lady Comets beat Salina 22-0 in the first game while downing the Lady Wildcats 12-1 in the second.

Kansas scored six runs in the first inning and nine in the fourth for the win over the Lady Wildcats. Kansas also smashed 14 hits in the four innings run rule game.
Kelsey Guthrie had three hits while Ashlyn Bird, Kaylee Armbrister, Lainie Payton and Ashton Bird had two hits each. Addison Gregory, Tyra Verrette and Bert Brewer all had one hit each. Payton also had four RBI’s in the game with Guthrie finishing with three.
Armbrister led the team with four runs, Ashlyn and and Ashton Bird along with Payton crossed home plate three times while Guthrie and Bonnie Pruitt had two.
Ashlyn Bird took the win on the mound with two hits, four strikeouts and one walk.

The Lady Comets finished with 10 hits in the game with Ashlyn and Ashton Bird and Payton coming away with two hits each. Maggie Barnard, Verrette, Bert Brewer and Megon Schwabe all with one hit in the game.
Four Lady Comets crossed home plate twice for the Lady Comets including Ashlyn and Ashton Bird, Guthrie and Gregory.
Guthrie was the winning pitcher for Kansas with two hits; four strikeouts and one walk in the game.
Abby James got the lone Lady Wildcat run with a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning over the left field fence.
With the district win Kansas will travel to the Class 3A regional tournament in Verdigris.
The 14th ranked Lady Comets will take on unranked Newkirk at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28. Top ranked Verdigris will take on Sperry on the same day at noon.
The losing teams will play at 4 p.m. on the same day, following the Kansas/Newkirk game, while the winning teams will face off at 6 p.m.
Games will resume Friday at noon with the two teams with a loss facing each other. The first game of the finals will take place at 2 p.m.
