More than 1,400 members of the Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, known locally as REC, turned out in force for the 2017 REC Day, Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Grove Civic Center.

The event, which included vendors, games for children, and free food and entertainment, was also designed to serve as a business meeting for the electric cooperative.

This was the 79th year for the event. Cindy Hefner, corporate communications with REC, said it was the first time since at least 1998, the coop did not have enough members present to make quorum for the business meeting.

The organization needed 1,449 members to conduct business, with only 1,412 signing in by the cut-off for the meeting, which was extended by 30 minutes to 12:30 p.m.

Hefner said REC officials are meeting with the cooperative's legal counsel to determine what step is taken next, and what the future direction will be for the trustee candidates. Additional information will be announced as soon as possible.
